Dry concrete mix is fed through a hose and water is added at the nozzle immediately before application. This method requires highly skilled operators to manage water addition consistently, as uneven hydration can affect structural integrity. When properly applied by skilled operators, both methods produce structurally sound pool shells with comparable compressive strength. The key differentiator is application consistency, which is why shotcrete's pre-mixed approach tends to produce more predictable results across a wider range of operators and conditions. - Australian industry preference
Shotcrete is the dominant method for concrete pool construction in Australia, with gunite rarely used domestically. Most Australian pool builders, certifiers, and engineers are more familiar with shotcrete specifications, mix designs, and quality standards.
