If you would love the convenience of swimming laps in your backyard, a lap pool could be for you. Our pools can be temperature controlled so you can use them year-round, no matter the weather.

Lap pools are an excellent place for swimmers of all levels to practice and perfect their skills in the water. They offer a long stretch of water that you won’t be able to find in many other backyard pool designs. Plus, they can add value to your property and give you a way to cool off on warm summer days.

Our experienced team of Sydney-based swimming pool builders can help put together your dream pool with peace of mind and quality workmanship that will last a lifetime.

Lap Pool Size

One of the best things about lap pools is that they are narrow and skinny compared to other pools. This means they can fit into tight spaces where you may not be able to fit in any different pool style.

We build custom swimming pools, so you can order a lap pool of any size. Most swimmers prefer the pool to be a minimum of 12 metres long or more so that each lap is a decent length. The width is less important to lap swimmers, but the standard would be between 1.8 metres – 2.5 metres wide.

Lap Pool Depth

Lap pools are commonly more shallow than other pool types. That’s because you should be able to stand up in the pool when you reach the end for a quick rest between laps.

You don’t want it to be too shallow, as you will need enough depth to perform a tumble turn when you don’t need a rest just yet. Therefore, the ideal depth is around 1.2 metres at each end, although it can be deeper in the middle.

When designing your pool with our swimming pool builder, we’ll look at your requirements and customise the depth to your needs.

Children’s Lap Pool Swimming

If you are interested in teaching your child to swim, a lap pool can be a great location to do it. These pools are narrower than other styles, making it less daunting for a child to get from one edge to another.

You can also choose to add a bench around the edge of your pool. This shallow bench, around 0.5 metres, offers kids a place to stop and rest when tired from swimming.

Additions

You may want to consider adding some extra items to your newly built concrete swimming pool to make it easy to use and keep warm. You will need a way of getting into the new pool. A ladder on the side is the perfect solution for this.

It’s also highly recommended that you get a pool cover. A pool can lose up to 60% of its heat without one. This results in higher heating costs, so purchasing a pool cover will save you money.
